Morgan County CLEAR Coalition

A community coalition (Community 2000 or C2000) is a network of volunteer, community teams focusing on reducing the incidence of substance use and abuse in their communities and changing community norms toward substance use by youth and others.

Coalitions receive technical assistance and training from regional support centers on a variety of topics related to their organization development and to organizing and implementing prevention strategies. An evaluation in 1998 concluded that Community 2000 teams have the potential for making a difference in their communities. There are approximately 200 volunteer groups registered with the Community 2000 program. Our mission is to work together as Community Leaders Educating About Resistance (CLEAR) to high risk behaviors while promoting a safe and healthy community.

History

"CLEAR was established in February 2006 in Morgan County. Our membership currently consists of school and community leaders. These include: youth, pastors, educators, law enforcement officers, and business leaders who meet and work together to develop and promote anti-substance abuse initiatives and policies to make the community a healthier and safer place to work and live. Although CLEAR has recently been working on the SPF-SIG grant to reduce underage and binge drinking in 12-25 year olds in Morgan County, it is not the only area CLEAR can and will impact."

Mission:

Promoting a safe and healthy community while working together as Community Leaders Educating About Resistance to high risk behaviors.

Vision:

We envision a community working together to educate and influence attitudes and behaviors in order to have a safe, healthy, drug-free county.

Current Goals:

∙ Implement SPF-SIG grant

∙ Support school and community projects relating to a healthy community
∙ Decrease the use of ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs) by youth in Morgan County.
